WHO NEEDS THIS LETTER?

This letter is required for a person who has been appointed as an Assistant Construction Supervisor on the work site. They will be responsible for assisting the Construction Supervisor in supervising construction work activities on a particular work site or section of the work site and ensuring that health and safety compliance is adhered to in their area of supervision.

WHAT IS THIS LETTER FOR?

This letter shows that an Assistant Construction Supervisor has been appointed to assist in the supervision of construction work activities on a particular work site or section of the work site, according to the requirements of the OHS Act. The letter allows these persons to act under the authority of the Construction Manager in order to ensure that all construction activities under their assisting supervision are conducted correctly and in compliance with health and safety requirements.

WHY IS THIS LETTER IMPORTANT?

This letter shows that a responsible person has been appointed to assist with supervising construction work activities on a particular work site or section of the work site in order to ensure these will be done correctly and safely. This provides evidence to an inspector that a basic structure is in place to ensure that construction activities are supervised in accordance with health and safety requirements. This letter is relevant under section 8(8) of the Construction Regulations of the OHS Act and its availability shows that the employer is complying with these Regulations in respects of this appointment requirement.

VALIDITY

This letter is only applicable to a single site and needs to be signed by the Construction Manager (as the appointer) and by the appointee, dated and kept on record where it can be accessible to an inspector. A time period must be included for the appointment. Each appointee must be a full-time employee and must have the relevant experience or accredited training in order to be competent to perform these duties. The appointee cannot supervise activities on more than one work site.
